Job Description
LRS Consulting Services is seeking a Senior z/OS Systems Programmer to provide ongoing operational support for a large-scale mainframe environment. This is a hands-on role responsible for installing and supporting z/OS software, maintaining system stability, performing configuration changes, and serving as a backup resource for critical mainframe operations. The ideal candidate brings deep z/OS experience across SYSPLEX environments and can operate independently with minimal oversight.
What You Will Do
- Plan and execute hardware and software system upgrades and configuration changes across z/OS environments.
- Perform SMP/E installation and customization of z/OS and related software products.
- Provide systems programming support for z/OS, CICS, DFSMS, storage administration, and security subsystems (RACF, ACF2). Perform IOCP and IOCDS upgrades using HCD.
- Maintain and update WLM configurations for performance tuning and workload optimization.
- Manage DFHSM across multiple LPARs and SYSPLEX environments.
- Troubleshoot system issues using IPCS dump analysis and online technical support tools.
- Automate operations and develop REXX execs, CLISTs, and SAS programs for system monitoring, SMF analysis, DASD management, and administration.
- Perform capacity planning and support disaster recovery testing for mainframe environments.
- Train and mentor system operators and application programmers as needed.
- Perform integration testing of new products with existing applications and procedures.
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, project plans, and operational procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer (senior-level candidates with 10+ years strongly preferred)
- Deep understanding of how z/OS and its subsystems are configured, activated, started, stopped, queried, and dynamically modified.
- Strong problem determination and problem source identification (PD/PSI) skills.
- Proficiency with TSO, ISPF, JES2, SDSF, Unix System Services (USS), DFSMS, and Workload Manager (WLM).
- Experience with dataset management using TSO/ISPF, including creating, editing, and deleting datasets and PDS members.
- Experience using SDSF for control of z/OS and JES.
- Experience with Integrated Catalog Facility (ICF) for allocating and cataloging datasets into appropriate user catalogs.
- Proficiency using console commands to monitor and control z/OS and subsystems.
- SMP/E installation and maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting SYSPLEX environments across multiple LPARs.
- Experience with DFSMS ACS routine design and coding.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as CA/OPS-MVS or IBM System Automation.
- Experience with print management (JES2, CA-Spool, VPS).
- Experience with backup and recovery tools (FDR, DFDSS, HSM).
- Experience with tape management systems (CA-1).
- Experience with scheduling and workload automation (CA-7, Control-M).
- Knowledge of SAS programming for SMF analysis and system reporting.
- Familiarity with CICS support and configuration.

The base range for this contract position is $40 - $60 per hour, depending on experience.
Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
