Job Description

Codeworks, an LRS company, is seeking a UI/UX Designer II for a contractopportunity. This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in accessibility and user‑centered design in support of high‑impact work for one of our client partners

Our client is undertaking an accessibility initiative to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance across more than 300 custom applications (internal and public‑facing) in a Microsoft .NET environment. They are seeking a UI/UX Designer II to plan, define, and document standards, processes, and guidance for accessible, mobile‑friendly user interfaces. You will translate functional needs into inclusive designs, conduct accessibility testing, and help establish practices that keep current and future applications compliant and easy to use—across devices and assistive technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Standards & Processes

    • Develop and document UI/UX standards, processes, templates, and guidance for .NET custom applications, with a primary focus on WCAG 2.1 AA and mobile‑friendly techniques.
    • Define processes to ensure ongoing compliance for enhancements and new development.
  • Assessment & Testing

    • Review and test existing/new applications for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance; document findings and remediation recommendations.
    • Create minimal, reusable test scenarios for accessibility and mobile responsiveness across devices/platforms.
    • Utilize approved testing tools (e.g., Lighthouse, axe DevTools, NVDA, JAWS, ANDI, ARIA techniques) and support developers with testing guidance.
  • Design & Collaboration

    • Produce wireframes, mockups, user flows, and prototypes (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD) to communicate concepts and interactions.
    • Partner with cross‑functional teams to translate requirements into intuitive, consistent, and accessible designs that work across browsers, devices, and assistive tech.
    • Provide consultation and training to IT and program teams to support sustained accessibility compliance.
  • Delivery & Governance

    • Manage design artifacts and code through Azure DevOps (work items, release processes, documentation).
    • Maintain an inventory of accessibility findings, status, and resolutions; participate in audits and metrics reporting.
    • Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate standards, rationale, and changes; ensure alignment with DNR branding and security requirements.
    • Analyze the impact of policy or legislative changes on accessibility requirements for IT systems.
The base range for this contract position is $42.00 - $52.00 per hour, depending on experience. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all U.S. locations. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors.
